Lots of freebies this weekend

Money-Savin’ Mama loves free stuff, and there’s some quality free-ness happening in Fargo this Saturday (May 5).

Free Comic Book Day: Stop by a comic book store Saturday to get a free comic. Held annually the first Saturday of May around the country, Free Comic Book Day “helps to introduce and re-introduce to the general public the rich tapestry of comics,” a local news release says. According to the release, Comic Junction, 1621 University Drive S., Fargo, will feature members of the Star Wars fan group, the 501st Legion, from 10a.m. to early afternoon. Paradox Comics, 26 Roberts St. N., Fargo, will feature activities, giveaways and also some costumed guests.

Kite Day: Kites of all shapes and sizes will be flying high over Fargo’s Ed Clapp Park (just north of 32nd Avenue and the Carlson Library) from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Bring along your own kite, or just take in the sites at this free event.

Storytime: Fargo Public Library’s Northport branch, 2714 Broadway, hosts storytime for toddlers and preschoolers beginning at 10 a.m. the first Saturday of the month. Barnes and Noble on 42nd Street in Fargo will feature “Splat!” at its 11 a.m. storytime.

Electronics Recycling Event: Get rid of old computers and televisions for free during a recycling event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Solid Waste Facility, 2301 8th Ave. N., Fargo.

This also seems to be the official kick-off weekend for garage sales … there are lots of big ones around town. Just be sure you’re buying things you need or will use. Otherwise it’s a waste of money, even if your purchase is cheap.

What else is going on this weekend for the thrifty-minded? Post your favorite events or activities in the comments.
